There is just NOTHING, I mean NOTHING that puts me in better holiday spirits than when I walk out of the grocery store after working AND taking a neurotic spin class only to have some crazy perky hippie yell at me "DO you have a moment for starving abused orphaned children?!?!?!"
Because, NO. NO I DO NOT. Real Housewives is starting and my Tivo is on the fritz.
I've also been accosted with "DO YOU CARE ABOUT THE ENVIRONMENT ENOUGH TO STOP FOR 2 SECONDS?"
Again. Nope.
I ALWAYS feel bad. And then I get pissed. Because these people are multiplying like rabbits! And I swear, they're always in front of places that are totally frivolous, and i am walking into or out of said place. Like the nail salon or starbucks or Nordstrom, inevitably with my arms heavily laden with bags. THEN you feel like a real asshole, when you're loaded up with bling and you're all "NO! I don't care about abandoned baby whales!"
Whatever happened to the humble little guy who rang a bell with a bucket? Where is he? I haven't seen a bell ringer all season. I HAVE however, seen MANY a REI/Birkenstock/wool sock/olive-earth toned clad 20 yr old, making me feel bad.
Add to this that my cable box in my bedroom is broken and it makes for a non-festive me.
So, if you're going through this too, here....THIS will cheer you up.
Just wish they'd come to MY neighborhood.

Sure, at Bloomies they get a bell orchestra. I get some toothless hag in a red cape who looks like she's siphoning off the top of the red bucket to buy NightTrain, in front of my mall.
you need to shop at walmart more often - the bell ringers at mine don't speak any english so they just smile and ring - just smile back and you will have no guilt!!
I care enough about the environment to destroy it!!
I can't walk through the doors of my store without pass three "well meaning causes". Tis the time of year...I wish I could help everyone...
reasons to move back to UT:
#97 No one cares about the environment here--- although we (Bountiful) just got a recycling program THIS year. :)
#98 We have a bell ringer in front of our KMART (yes, it is the only department store in Bountiful...and maybe that cancels out reasons #97 & 98)
LOVE it!!

How touching! I love that the original bell ringer was completely caught off guard by the whole thing too.
See, when you internet shop, you aren't accosted by crunchy granola types with a cause or toothless hags with bells. You can even watch Real Housewives while you shop! In your underwear and slippers! Its like a Christmas miracle!
I love you, I really do.
i actually cried watching that.
thanks a lot.
You are coming to OAKLAND?!?!? Why don't we have plans to get together yet? Will you still be here after Christmas?
What is this cryptic comment you left on our blog? Am I supposed to wait at the airport all day and hope that we magically connect?
Is this a challenge? :)
If you have the time, I would LOVE to see you!!
Oh, and I didn't get the video.
I watched, but kinda didn't get it. Is that OK to admit?
Here's the thing:
Yesterday, I was out shopping, with my kids. I'll admit that I was in Nordstrom shopping for myself, but whatev. The issue is that I came out of the shoe department and had spent ALL the money I had. Therefore, I had nothing to give to charity. You'd think that the Salvation Army bell ringer would be a little more attentive to what was going on with me, but oh no. He shoves candy canes in front of my kids and then expectantly looks at me for cash.
The morale of this story is: Use the other exit!!
lol!!You are so right except you actually came out and said it!I hate to admit this but I feel the same way, It's like leave me alone, please, no, next time....
my old stomping grounds! That was amazing.
That's pretty cool. At my local Kroegar, I get an angry old man. He practically shakes the bell in your face. I can feel his scorn. (Guilty much?)
