LAST WEEK's "SHIT!-I'M-OLD" SUNDAY
Listen here Little Obama, Back in my day we had these things called RECORDS. And we had Record players. I remember when your Great Grammycrazybitch bought me my first RECORD. It was a band called The Stray Cats. And I only wanted to listen to "Stray Cat Strut." It went like this...
Stray Cat strut I'm a ladies man, hmm hmm hmm hmm hmm I wish I could be as carefree and wild, BUT I GOT CAT CLASS AND I GOT CAT STyyyyyyyyyyyyyyLE!
Now THAT was good music Little O. Good good music! I would put the needle on that song over and over and over. Yes, that's right. NEEDLE. Not like the needle your mummy uses to knit her organic hemp tampons, a record needle. And that needle played the music. And no, we did not have headphones. Definitely ask your Great AuntieHippie about her CASSETTE tapes of New Kids on the Block, and her BOOMBOX.
Now, let me tell you about your GreatUncleDumbass, who's WAY older than me, and listened to 8 track tapes....

You are WAAAAY older than me. I don't remember records. Thanks for making me feel really young.
Oh yeah! Records ruled! Looking at your Donny and Marie pic, I am reminded of the Osmond Brother's Crazy Horses album that I played holes in as a wee lass of 7 or 8. That was in heavy rotation with The Partridge Family and my David Cassidy Cherish Album.
we did a lot of captain and tennille - love will keep us together (I think I will download that right now and see what the kids think! If they hate it I will tell them it was your idea! Chase was talking about you AGAIN yesterday!)
OMG!! Kritina P. does not remember records? Can we vote her off of blog island?
I'm struttin' around the house boppin' to this tune in my head... except I'm so stinkin' sore from my flipping kayak trip that I can't really get my strut on. So thanks for that, peewee.
Shit. I AM old.
I loved/love the Stray Cats. Sexy and 17 was a good one, too. There is something pretty wonderful about records that CD's just can't replicate.
I totally forgot about sexy at 17!!!! HA! I AM OLD!
Just put it in my Itunes shopping cart...my girls will LOVE it! They still ask for the "dog song" ie...the dogs singing "Jingle Bells" that you gave us...weekly!
You are not that old. I think you are of the cassette tape era. Right? BTW, got me a Foam Roller of Pain and Death. Thanks for the painful advice!
I totally had 8 tracks when I was little. Records were the bomb diggity. I miss them.
Hi Pee Wee,
I gave you a shout-out in my posting today since your post about records inspired the entry. I got all sentimental for my cheesy musical past and I found an Osmond Bros video that is, well, historically accurate. I guess. Not sure there's much else to say about it. See if you remember (You might be too young. Lucky you.).
we kicked it old school at my house. we rocked the records AND the 8 track. in fact, we still rock the records from time to time. james taylor sounds the best on vinyl.
Girlie, I am digging your sidebars!!! You and I have to be the same age because nobody, I mean NOBODY remembers Baby Huey and Anissa Jones (Buffy) together in one spot! Funny stuff here, chicky. :)
My mom and dad used to take their records and record them onto tapes. It was quite a production in our house because we couldn't make any loud noises or slam the door for fear that the record would skip. Damn, I hate getting old...
I used to buy records and then tape them so I had a back up in case my records scratched, which they always did!
HA! I did that too! But we were poor so the turntable" was IT. so I would play the record and sit there with my portable tape recorder and hold it up to the speakers!
I guess I should change the name to SHIT-I'M-OLD-AND-DAMN-I'Z-POOR-TOO!" Sundays.
I'm 34 and I remember all of them! The 8 track my dad used in his cool car back in the day when I was like 3 or 4, then my records from like age 5 to 8 or 9 and then to cassettes after that. When I was in middle school I started buying CD's and then, IPODS now as an adult jeez I'm really old,I've seen everything!
OMG! I used to hold my tape recorder close to the radio speaker to tape it, too! I would get mad if my brother came in talking or something, ha ha ha! Ah, memories!
I spent many a Saturday morning with Rick Dees and Kasey Kasem, recording songs off the radio!
My first record (other than The Smurfs, which doesn't count) was Madonna's Like a Virgin.
